On the Right Track!

Did you know that the ECIDA manages 2 short-line railroads within the County? These lines carry freight such as propane, crude oil and agricultural-based products throughout the region and beyond. Many local manufacturers choose rail because it is a more cost effective and eco-friendly mode of transportation when compared to alternatives. Freight railroads continue to be critical to the economic well-being and global competitiveness of the United States.

SBA Small Business Awards

Getting a jump on this year's National Small Business Week (May 12 - 16, 2014), the ECIDA was pleased to honor Ann Rhod's Tailoring as its Business of the Year. The award was presented at the SBA Small Business Awards held on Wed, May 7th at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. This year is a big year for Annette Watts, owner of Ann Rhod's, who is also celebrating 20 years in business. That's  a whole lot of alterations! Back in 2010, with assistance from the ECIDA's microloan program, Ann Rhod's Tailoring was able to expand services at their 3181 Bailey Ave, Buffalo location. Pictured is Mike Alexander, ECIDA Loan Assistant along with Annette Watts at the SBA awards luncheon.

A New Chapter Begins

Steve WeathersThe ECIDA's hunt for a new CEO concluded in December with the announcement of Steve Weathers joining our team! During his first days in the office, local economic development professionals gathered to welcome Steve to the ECIDA and to WNY. The most asked question on people's minds? Why come to Buffalo from sunny San Diego (Steve's most recent position was as President & CEO of the World Trade Center San Diego)? The answer was easy: just look around at all of the opportunities in Buffalo! In case you haven't noticed, we are drawing positive national attention and with that, some strong talent! So welcome Steve - we look forward to sharing with you, all the things that make Buffalo great!

Open House Extravaganza!

Hotroxs and Frank and Nick, oh my! If you don't know Frank, he is a pale ale brewed to perfection by Community Beer Works. Frank was served alongside chicken wing sliders prepared by Hotroxs Buffalo Bistro. We must not forget the sweet pumpkin ice cream from Nick Charlap's elegantly topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. Our three delectable guests accompanied 250 local business professional to get a first-hand look at the ECIDA's new Perry Street location during an open house held on October 9th.
